A cute and/or terrifying thing appeared!!
Church Grims are guardian spirits of graveyards. Once, it was thought that the first person buried in a new graveyard would protect the spirits of the dead from the devil, but at some point someone decided to delegate the work to man's best friend--they buried living black dogs in graveyards so that their souls would become Church Grims. In recent times, their zombie-like appearance has earned them an unfair reputation as omens of death (similar to the Grim that Professor Trelawney see in The Prisoner of Azkaban).
The man who smells of peppermint rescued this particular Church Grim when his tiny graveyard was destroyed in a factory explosion. He named his new pet 'Zosimos' after the ancient Greek alchemist Zosimos of Panopolis, because the man who smells of peppermint is a nerd. A huge stupid nerd.
Also, I just got back from TCAF! It was a delight! I met a lot of great people and had good sales--unfortunately, I didn't expect to sell much, so I packed fewer books than usual and sold out of most of my stuff. :( I apologize to the people who came by and weren't able to buy the books they wanted!! All my books are available at my store, but I am sorry you weren't able to pick them up in person!
I will write more about TCAF in detail next week (literally just got back) but just wanted to give a quick update!!
