'Glaswegian' is a funny word, right? Where'd that 'w' come from? (I'm sure there's a perfectly reasonable language-related reason to explain the w, I just think it's a fun word.) Um, my roommate in college was from Tennessee but had been told to hide her Southern accent to avoid being called stupid. Which is a shame! Because I actually like the sound of Southern accents and the fact that a lot of people in entertainment still give characters Southern accents as a shorthand for 'they're dumb lol' is lazy and bad. The only times you ever got to hear her real accent was when she was super tired or otherwise incapacitated. And I must assume she had to be super super super tired, because she was tired a lot during college. Especially if she had morning classes, because she was a total night owl. Like, it got to be a thing where we would go out almost every night for 'second dinner' at around 3 or 4 am, which was not easy to go in Valencia, where most things close around 9pm. Anyway, it was a rare occurrence to hear her accent and it always felt like you were unlocking a special achievement.
